For Ubuntu 9.10 ( Grub 2) :
I installed Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 some time back. Recently installed Windows 7.
As expected the Ubuntu GRUB boot loader is lost and I had to recover it. Since Ubuntu Karmic uses GRUB 2, the old procedure will not work.
